Krause's 2018 Kentucky Derby Picks

Krause's 2018 Kentucky Derby Picks: A Strong Group of 3-Year-Olds in the Kentucky Derby

My Winner: #7 Justify (3-1)
Lightly raced, but well trained. Justify is the handicappers’ favorite – and for good reason. He has never lost a race, he’s trained by Bob Baffert (four-time Derby winner) and ridden by Mike Smith. Beautiful horse – super fast – great post position. You won’t make a lot because the odds will be low; however, this is the Derby winner!

My Value Pick:  #6 Good Magic (12-1)
Ridden by Jose Ortiz and trained by Chad Brown (one of the best in the business), Good Magic could win this year’s Derby – or at least finish in the money. The winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and this year’s Blue Grass Stakes winner – along with an excellent post position (alongside Justify), this is a solid value pick. I expect the odds to drop, but this can still be a solid payout.

My Long-Shot:  #10 – My Boy Jack (30-1)
With Kent Desormeaux in the irons there is a chance of a strong finish. His brother, Keith is the trainer. This horse has the most experience with 10 starts. Not the strongest lineage, he nevertheless has some wins and has placed often in the money. At 30-1 he is worth including in your exotic bets. Good post position.

Good luck!
